The traffic was terrible. No worries, come in. Can I get you something to drink? Sure, do you have any beer? Of course, what kind would you like? I have dark red or a lager. I’ll have a dark beer, please.

Sure thing. Coming right up. Here you go. Thanks. It looks like a great party. Yeah, we had a good turnout. Oh, by the way, there’s someone I want you to meet. Hang on, I’ll be right back. Daniel, this is my friend Alison. Alison, this is Daniel, Daniel and I work together. He’s just moved here from Vancouver. Yesterday, Daniel was asking me about some good places to go hiking.

I told him you were really into hiking and mountain biking. And that, you know, all of the best trails. I’ve got to go mingle with the other guests. I’ll see you guys later. It’s nice to meet you, Alison. Nice to meet you, too, Daniel. So you like to hike? Yes, there are some really amazing trails through the mountains just outside of Vancouver. I find it’s a great way to relax and get some exercise.

Vancouver is beautiful. I was there a couple of years ago for work. Nice. What type of work do you do? I’m a sales rep. Oh, just like Megan. Is that how you know each other? Yeah, we met at a sales conference last summer. So what brings you to Toronto, why did you leave Vancouver? I was looking for a new job, but I couldn’t find anything, then I found one here. I applied and was offered the job.

Now here I am. How do you like living in Toronto compared to Vancouver in very different cities, aren’t they? Oh, yeah, it’s different, but I really like Toronto. It has great restaurants, there’s lots to do and the people are friendly. So besides hiking, what else do you like to do for fun? I love watching hockey and I played on the company softball team, that was a lot of fun. How about you? Megan mentioned you like mountain biking.

Oh, yeah, we don’t have the mountains that Vancouver has, but we have some excellent places to ride here. I also like to go to watch the Toronto FC matches. I used to play soccer in university. Cool. I never went to see any of the Whitecap matches when I lived in Vancouver. Really, if you like, there’s a group of us going to a match this weekend, you’re welcome to join us. Sure, that would be fun.

It’s not easy meeting new people. I’m going to get another beer. Would you like something? Sure. I’ll have some sparkling water with lemon. OK, I’ll be right back. Here you go. Thanks. You’re welcome. So what part of this city are you living in? I’m downtown near the stadium. I got lucky and found a great apartment close to my office. No, wait, I live near the stadium, too. I love the area, but I wish there were more parks where I could walk my dog.

What kind of dog do you have? I have a German shepherd. His name is Rex. I adopted him from a shelter. Wow, now I understand why you’d like more space to let him run, Shepperd’s need a lot of space to run. Is Rex your first dog? No, we had dogs the whole time I was growing up. What about you? Do you have any pets? I have a shiatsu poodle mix named Penelope. Here’s a picture of her.

Oh, she’s so cute. Especially with those ribbons in her hair. I’ve always had cats, but I saw Penelope at the shelter and couldn’t resist her charms. I don’t blame you. She’s adorable. Thanks. She’s a great dog. Hey, guys, how’s it going? Are you having a good time? Hey, Megan. Yes, we are. It’s a great party. Excellent. I just put out some snacks there in the kitchen. Help yourselves.

Thanks. I didn’t have time to eat dinner before coming over. So I’m getting kind of hungry. Well, then, let’s go. Oh, Somoza’s yummy, I love Indian food. Have you tried that new Indian restaurant on Cheal Street? No, I’m not a big fan of Indian food. I prefer barbecue, steaks, ribs, chicken, my favorite food, though, is pizza. If you love steak, you’ll love the restaurant on Harbor Street, their food is so good, not cheap, but really tasty.

Yeah, I walked by it, I’ll be sure to try it some time. Oh, this is one of my favorite songs. What kind of music are you into? I like all kinds. I like classic rock like Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones. And I like new stuff, too. There’s a singer named DJ Wild that I really like. What about you, what do you listen to? I love to dance, so I listen to dance music mostly.

Do you like to dance? I do, but I’m not very good. Although I get better after I’ve had a few drinks. We’ll have to go dancing one night. I’ll take you to my favorite club. I’d like that cool. Oh, wow. Is it really 12, 30? I should get going. I need to get up early to go visit my parents. I had a great time tonight. Yeah, me, too, would you like to grab a coffee some evening after work?

Sure. Here, put your number in my phone. It was really nice to meet you. Drive safely. Thanks. It was great to meet you, too. See you soon. Good night. Hey, Daniel, thanks for coming. Hi, Megan.
